Chapter
2 - News from Rivendell
N: Alert! Sue on the loose.
“ Thiniel! “ she
heard someone calling her again.
S: (Someone) I’ve been
calling you for over two hours! Answer or I will shoot you!
“ What is it? “,
she asked.
“ Hey, we’re looking for you all over the forest! We
started to worry tha something happened to you! “ It was
Haldir, one of the best friends she had in Lorien.
N: Since he is named in both the
book and the movie, he automatically is one of her best friends.
S: (Thiniel) ...And you’re my third best friend...
“ Haldir, don’t
worry about me! I was just having a private moment.
S: (Thiniel) With my non-existent
thoughts.
And what is it that you wanted
from me? “
N: (Haldir, darkly) Your life.
“ It’s not like I
wanted anything from you, I just wanted to tell you something
important! “
N: (Haldir) So listen to me!
You’re really starting to get on my nerves.
“ Oh, I see! Quick, tell
me what it is! “ she was curious.
“ I have some news from Rivendell! “
N: I am strongly disliking this new
formatting.
S: Too many spaces... eyes unfocusing...
“ What is it? Tell me,
Haldir! I hate it when you linger something like this!
“
“ The ring was in Rivendell more than a month ago!
“
S: (Haldir) I learned this from
reading Galadriel’s mind.
N: (Haldir) Because I can... uh... do that.
“ What? The One ring?
“
“ Yes, the One ring! “
N: (Haldir) What other ring would I
mysteriously know about?
“ And where is it now?
“, Thiniel asked.
“ Your father sent it to Mordor, there it’s going to
be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. But pretend you
don’t know that! “
S: (Haldir) Because I don’t
actually know this myself.
N: (Haldir) And I didn’t just loudly blurt out top
secret information.
“ Hold it, Haldir! I
would like the facts one by one, please! “
N: (Thiniel) So I can report to my
Orc friends.
“ Oh, sorry! You see,
your father formed a fellowship of brave men, each of them
representing his race. “
“ How many of them? “
“ Nine. “
N: (Haldir) Not ten. So
don’t even think about it.
S: I bet you the last antipasto crackers that she does
think about it, and acts on it.
N: You are on.
“ What? Only nine men
marsh against The Dark Lord? Is this a joke? “, Thniel was
surprised.
N: Your attempt at attacking Dol
Guldur was a joke.
“ Well, I thought that
too at first, but it really makes sense! They are careful and the
enemies don’t know that they exist. A big army is easily to
be discovered and destroyed! “
“ You’re right. And who are they? “
N: Okay already. We don't need you to explain Elrond's
wisdom.
“ Well, you know the ringbearer, Frodo. “
“ I’ve heard for him. “ N: (Thiniel) I'm his ear.
S: (Thiniel) That’s how I know information I
shouldn’t.
“ And then, his hobbit
friends, Sam, Merry and Pippin. “
“ So many hobbits?! Elrond ’s insane! “
N: (Thiniel) And I’m still
bitter!
“ Now, Thiniel, I’m
sur he has his reasons. And then, Gandalf, I don’t have to
introduce him, do I? S: (Haldir)
Since he’s not here.
“ Of course not. Gandalf
is the smartest being in Middle Earth! “
N: (Thiniel) And I’m the
dumbest!
“ And the Men are
Aragorn, and…” , but he was interrupted.
“ Aragorn! “
Thiniel loved Aragorn very much.
Both: Aaa!
Not in a romantic way,
Both: (whew)
she left that for her sister
Arwen. But he was the only one who understood her.
N: (Thiniel) Woe is me.
She was the first Elf he met
and he loved her like a sister he never had. He knew her almost
his whole life.
“ Aragorn! “, she said one more time “ And?
“
“ And Boromir. Do you know him? “
“ He ‘s Denethor’s son? “
S: (Thiniel) I know everything
about everyone!
N: Author's whim!
“ Yes. And the Dwarf is
Gloin’s son, Gimli. “
“ Those dwarves annoy me! “
N: (Gimli, fingering his axe)
I’ll show you annoying, Sue.
“ I know, me too. But
that’s your father’s decision. “
“ Whatever. That’s eight, and who’s going to
represent us? I bet it’s Glorfindel! “
S: (Thiniel) Glorfindel iz so
hott!
“ No, you see that’s what surprised me. It’s an
Elf from Mirkwood, Legolas. Do you know him? “
“ Legolas?! “, she was surprised
S: That a porcupine was standing on
her head.
N: Go porcupine!
“ I don’t know him,
I just met him once.”, but that was a lie.
N: (Thiniel) I stalk him!
She knew him almost more than
she knew herself if that was possible.
S: Emphasize the
“If”.
N: I called that one too.
But she didn’t want to
tell that to Haldir now.
“ They call themselves the Fellowship of the
Ring.”
S: J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a book about it.
, Haldir interrupted Thiniel in her thoughts.
“ And they’re going to Mordor, eh? “
“ Yes. But that’s not everything. They should pass
through Lothlorien so we have to be ready for them. “
N: (Haldir) So I can pretend we
weren’t expecting them and make them go blindfolded through
Lorien!
“ Wait! As far as I know,
Lorien is not exactly on their way from Rivendell to
Mordor.”
“ They cant go through the Gate of Rohan. “
“ Yes, to close to Isengard. “, she agreed.
S: (Thiniel) I learned
Gandalf’s council by reading his thoughts! Yea me.
“ So, they can cross the
Misty Mountains only over Caradhras or through Moria, if
they’re crazy. “, Haldir concluded.
“ I just hope they can pass the Caradhras, I mean you never
know, in this time of year. “
N: I thought this fic would be more
interesting.
S: What in Middle-earth made you think that?
N: The author doesn’t call herself Leggsie_izz_hott? I
don’t know.
“ Anyway, they sohuld be here in two days. “
“ That soon? “
“ Yes. That soon. “
N: (Haldir) Honestly Thiniel,
you’re dumber than a sack of hammers.
“ Well we should be nice
to them, then. I mean, the fate of the world depends on them.
“
S: (Thiniel) I’m mean to
people who do not have the fate of the world resting on their
shoulders.
“ Come on, Thiniel,
let’s go to Galadriel and see do we have to do something
special for them. “
But Thiniel wasn’t listening to her friend anymore.
S: Not that she ever was.
She thought about the good old
times.
N: (Thiniel) I remember when you
could get chocolate bars for only a quarter.
She was walking through the
forest with her light steps
N: (Thiniel) Come on Light Steps!
Come on boy!
and thinking, remembering.
S: (Thiniel) That’s where I
left my keys!
N: Well that wraps up another chapter.
S: I can’t do another fifteen of these. Why don’t we
just skip to the end?
N: We must be contiguous, or it wouldn’t make sense.
S: ...
N: Er, yes. How about this. We read to the middle, summarize
what we’ve read, then continue from there.
S: Okay, and after we’ve done one or two chapters from the
middle, we can do the same thing and skip to the end!
N: Excellent.
