Spomonie and Nurvingiel entered the
small office. Spomonie made a plate of crackers with antipasto
and cream cheese as Nurvingiel set up the next MST. Nurvingiel
put the backpack with supplies next to her chair, and sat down
with a mug of tea for herself and her friend. Spomonie quickly
joined her with the plate of crackers.
N: (handing her the mug) Here's your tea Spomonie.
S: Thanks. We should get a kettle and hot plate in here, then we
could make tea and soup any time. Comfort food for when a fic
turns bad.
N: (laughs) Anyway, we have a somewhat longer fic for you today
-
S: How much longer?
N: (sidestepping Spomonie's question) Which I hope you enjoy.
S: So without further ado...
The story of her
life
S: As a toilet brush.
N: (snickers)
Author: Aglarien
This is my first fic and I would like you to tell me your opinion
on it.
N: We have an opinion, but you may
not like it.
S: Oh yes Precious.
I plan to write more
chapters,
S: So Nurv, how long is this fic? I
didn't bring very much food.
N: (mumbles incoherently)
S: What?
N: Seventeen short chapters. And she's... er, not done.
S: What!?
N: I emphasize short. It's not that bad.
and post one every week or two,
even if you don't like what I write.
S: (Author, army sergeant voice)
You will read it and like it, you maggots!
The main character is Thiniel,
Arwens sister.
N: I'm feeling a Mary Sue on this
one.
S: Oh yes Precious.
N: I'll give you a box of cookies if you stop doing Gollum
impressions.
S: Deal. (quietly) Sucker.
N: What was that?
I made her up.
N: Actually, she is mentioned in
the Appendices... not!
She lives in Lorien and we
follow her life, meeting with the fellowship, the battles
S: The Sue-ishness
N: The stalking of Legolas
and so on.
Disclaimer: I claim none of original Lord of the Rings
characters, places or events. Thiniel 's the only character I
created. I fully respect prof. Tolkien
N: That's "Professor" to you.
S: With a capital "P".
and his work and everyone who
worked on the film version on the book.
So, don't sue me!
N: (Christopher Tolkien) We'll
see.
Chapter 1
Thiniel's story
She sat high up in the mallorn trees of Lorien. Her long dark
hair was picked up in the braid.
S: (Random Elf of Lorien) You
dropped your hair, I picked it for you.
N: Now that she's a bald toilet brush, maybe she won't turn into
a Sue.
She had a grey dress and a
cloak in the same colour, matching her eyes.
N: Are you sure they don't randomly
turn emerald?
Even the sharpest eye wouldn't
discover her up there.
S: (Random Elf of Lorien) I see you
up there, our eyes are sharper than sharp.
She thought about the past.
S: She had for dinner. (re-reads)
Oh, I thought she said "pasta".
She knew she couldn't change
anything what happened although she wanted that more than
anything else.
N: We've been saying what a lot,
but... what?
S: It's probably just random angst. (offers plate) Cracker?
N: Cheers.
She felt like she was alone in
this world, like no one cares about her.
N: Cry me a river, I'll build you a
bridge you can jump off of.
But she was wrong.
S: No she wasn't.
So many people loved her and
they did care about her.
N: (Person who cares) She's so
useful.
Her only sister Arwen, her
brothers Elladan and Elrohir, her best friend Aragorn, her
grandparents,
S: All the other people who's lives
she had mysteriously infiltrated,
and all the other friends
weather they were Elves or Men.
N: Or Orcs. We know your
secret.
And of course, her father
Elrond loved her and thought of her very often.
N: (Elrond) I know I have another
daughter... what's her name again?
Especially now, after he hasn't
seen her for a long time.
S: Ever. (stage whisper) Elrond
doesn't have a daughter named Thiniel.
She loved her father, too. He
was the only parent she had. Her mother, Celebrian was wounded
and had to sail West, and now, Thiniel couldn't even remember how
she looked like.
N: Because she had the memory of a
goldfish.
S: (Thiniel) Short-term memory loss runs in my family... I
think.
N: You really enjoyed "Finding Nemo" didn't you.
She only had this small memory
of her mother's eyes. The grey eyes full of love and care for her
children.
" Thiniel! Thiniel! "
N: That name sounds a lot like a
type of cracker.
S: Like "Wheat Thiniel's"
, suddenly the sound of her
name interrupted her thoughts. Someone was looking for her.
N: The police.
She decided to ignore that and
went back to her memories.
N: (Thiniel) It probably isn't
important since nobody loves me.
S: (Thiniel) Woe is me.
One of the most painful
memories Thiniel had was about the last time she saw her father
Elrond.
S: It was during a rugby game, and
Elrond had accidentally stomped her head in a ruck.
N: (makes air quotes) "Accidentally".
That was about sixty years ago.
Not much time for the Elves,
N: Barely enough time to have a
shower and dry their hair.
but in this case, she felt like
it was a lot more. It all happened so quickly.
N: (confused) Even though it felt
like a long time?
All those words that were
said,
S: (Thiniel) Blah blah blah.
now couldn't be pulled back, or
forgotten. If she could, she would give everything she had to
forget that day.
It happened in spring. Sauron's
army of orcs tried to get Dol Guldur
S: Turned into an arcade
and urgent help was needed.
Elrond decided to send his troop to help.
N: (Elrond) Foul orcs will not
defile Pac-Man!
He knew Thiniel would try to go
with them,
S: Because she would want to use
her martial skills, learned at the Sue-cademy.
N: Nice one Monie.
S: (grins)
so he asked her to promise him
she won't go. And she promised, but early in the morning left
with the soldiers.
S: (soldiers) We're doomed!
Her brothers didn't go because
they had some other business,
N: Not getting killed.
so the felt that it's her duty
to represent the family
N: in court
.
At the Dol Guldur, the commander of the troups, Galadhion was
killed so she took his place and led the army.
S: Called it! One to zero for
me.
She was known as the best
organiser and attack planer,
N: She smoothes down attacks with
wood-working hand tools.
but something went wrong.
S: She was a Sue!
When the most of the orcs were
killed, she decided to go and win over the castle.
N: You only wish Dol Guldur
was a mere castle.
She led her men straight into
it, unaware of the large basements' the castle had.
S: Ooh, large basements. Scary.
N: Actually that would be scary in Dol Guldur. They'd be full of
unspeakable evil, which any self-respecting Elf would have
sensed.
And those basements were full
of orcs and other beasts ready to attack
N: Called it! That's one each.
S: (Soldier) Way to go there best attack planer.
Thiniel never expected that to
happen. She never made such a big mistake before.
S: Apart from going against
Elrond's advice.
N: And existing.
They were outnumbered. She lost
there half of her men, and the other half would be lost if the
sudden help didn't came.
N: You want to say "if sudden help
hadn't come."
S: You're fighting a losing battle my dear, almost as bad as
Thiniel.
Only with the help of the Elves
of Mirkwood, led by Legolas,
N: And enter Prince Lust Object.
Hey, I called that too! Two - one.
S: We shouldn't tease him, he's in for a hard enough time as it
is.
they won the battle.
N: You should probably write that
as "did they win the battle."
S: (gives Nurvingiel a meaningful look)
N: Okay, yeah...
Thiniel felt she's failed.
N: Must resist... urge to
correct...
S: Be strong.
N: (Eats several of Spomonie's antipasto crackers at once.)
She hoped her father will
understand that. She hoped he'd forgive her.
S: I'm proud of you Nurv.
N: I try.
But she was wrong.
S: (Elrond) I'm not forgiving you
for getting many valiant men killed foolishly.
Before she got back to
Rivendell, Elrond knew what happened. He was outraged. When the
soldiers marshed through the gate of Rivendell,
S: They made a swampy ecosystem on
the threshold of the Last Homely House.
N: Which irritated Elrond's neighbour, the Last Homely
Bungalow.
Elrond was waiting there for
them, his face looked like it was made from stone.
N: Mount Rushmore?
He called Thiniel to his
chambers, with a cold voice.
S: (Elrond) I've got to stop
standing in the meat freezer.
Cold sweat covered her face.
They walked into the hall silently. He closed the door and took a
long breath
N: From the closet
.
" Thiniel ", he said " I don't know what to tell you, except that
I am greatly dissapointed by your actions. "
N: (Elrond) I disown you.
S: (Elrond) Now leave, never to return.
" Father, I…"
She tried to explain but he interrupted her, raising his
voice
S: And putting it on a shelf.
"No! You don't speak untill you
get my permission!
N: (Thiniel) Can I have your
permission? Oops.
Also, you don't go to war
without my permission! And you don't take all your men into an
unchecked castle! What were you thinking?!"
N: Elrond is wise.
After that a long moment of
silence proceeded.
N: Legolas told Arwen he loved
her!
S: Well that was random.
N: Having a long moment was very "Never Again" -ish.
S: The memories. Need... Mind Bleach.
" I only did what I thought I
should. It can happen to anyone!
S: Countless people discover they
are morons in the middle of a battle!
I did what I thought was the
best to do in that situation! "
N: (Thiniel) Get everyone
killed!
" And you think you did the
right thing? "
" I'm not saying that. ", she
gasped and then continued " It was the only way to clean South
Mirkwood from enemies!"
" No it wasn't!
N: (Takes out "Go Elrond!" pennant
from the backpack, and starts waving it.)
You should have waited for
Legolas' army to arrive! ", He was angrier by minute. " You've
practicly helped the enemy!"
S: (Elrond) One would almost think
you were in league with the Orcs.
N: (Elrond, suspicious) How did you avoid being killed
anyway?
" But who could've known when
will they arrive! The spiders ambushed them so they were late. We
couldn't have known if they'll arrive on time! "
N: (Thiniel) We couldn't have known
I'd be completely incompetent!
" Thiniel! ", Elrond shouted
again, " No more excuses. The truth is you failed! You've helped
the enemy!"
N: (waves the "Go Elrond"
pennant.)
She knew that but she couldn't
listen to him anymore.
S: (Elrond) You can't handle the
truth!
" Can you bring half of my men
back with your lame excuses?
S: Elrond is my hero. Can I borrow
that pennant?
N: Sure.
S: (Waves pennant)
No! You are a disgrace for
whole Elven race, and to me and my home.
What kind of daughter are you?! " he couldn't stop
S: Trampling her head
.
It was so painful listening to that.
N: (Thiniel) Woe is me.
" With a father like you it's
not a surprise that I'm a failiour! ", she said " I wish you
weren't my father! "
S: As do we all.
N: But don't blame Elrond for your stupidity. It's not a
heritable trait.
He couldn't believe she's
saying that. His beloved Thiniel, youngest of all his
children.
S: At the tender age of five.
He was so angry no words could
describe.
S: What can words describe?
N: The Sueishness of the Sue.
And then he said something that
he has regretted many times later.
N: (Elrond) You can use my credit
cards Thiniel.
" I wish you weren't my
daughter, too. For me, you died there, at Dol Guldur!", when he
said that, he knew he made a mistake.
N: He knew he should kill her on
the spot.
But it could not be undone.
S: (Elrond) Like these blasted
shoelaces!
Those words were for Thiniel
like a sward through the heart.
N: I can only imagine how much it
would hurt to have a grassy expanse go through your heart.
S: It would be worse than a sword through your heard.
She just stood there, numb,
broken.
Both: Yea!
S: (Waves "Go Elrond" pennant.) Stomp her again!
Her father, her dear father
wished she was dead. She looked at him and turned around.
S: Now she was looking at him with
her head rotated 180°.
She ran out of the hall as fast
as she could.
N: At a snail's pace.
She took only her horse.
S: No food, no water, no
blanket.
N: Maybe she's only going to the corner store.
She was ready to go.
Forever.
N: And there was much
rejoicing.
She rode out from the valley
and rode until she came to Lorien. Her horse was exhausted.
She felt empty inside, her
whole world was broken.
S: (Thiniel, disappointed) I
dropped my snow globe.
In Lorien, Galadriel embraced
her and she could understand her with no words.
S: (Galadriel, looking into
Thiniel's mind) No thoughts? That's odd...
Her Thiniel was suffering and
she suffered, too. Thiniel decided to stay in Lorien with her
grandparents.
N: (Celeborn) We have an extra
room... on our Northern borders.
She has forgiven her father,
but as they say she hasn't forgotten.
S: Whoop-de-do, as they say.
She thought about that day
often, but only when she was alone, up in the trees.
N: Otherwise, she didn't think
about anything.
Now, she decided to come down.
Someone called her name again and she decided to answer before
they get worried.
S: And?
N: That's the end of the chapter.
S: Abrupt, yet welcome.
After a short break, they were ready to tackle the next
chapter.
S: By the way, we have a reference to "Finding Nemo", "A Few Good
Men", and "Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail"!
N: Onwards!
